Thinking about picking up a grip for my t4i. There are so many 3rd party vendors on eBay with 2 x batteries. The price are really good as well compare to a genuine BG. Never bought a 3rd party grip before so I would love to hear some opinions. Thanks!

I have a meike battery grip on my 60d and while it works well the majority of the time, once in a while it will not connect with the camera, and I have to unscrew it, press it against the body and screw it back in. Maybe it is just a fault with mine, but you get what you pay for...

My brother had a 3rd party grip for his rebel XT when it first came out. After a couple of months the gold connector wouldn't connect with the camera. He would have to push it up and hold it. I would think that these 3rd party vendors would improve their quality control by now.

I had a 3rd party grip for my XTi a while back. The batteries were held in place by friction, much as they are in the battery charger. There were several times when a minor bump cause one or both batteries to lose contact with the camera inside the grip, killing the camera. I switched it out with a genuine Canon grip.

There is a good reason why they cost a lot less.

I have used:
Opteka on T1i - very good.
Panasonic on 60D - very good.
Canon on Elan 7NE - Excellent.
Canon on 5D - Excellent.

I don't think the Canon grips are worth paying retail for.

I have had success with 3rd party grips (Meike) on my 450d, 20d, and 50d. However, I purchased the fully weather sealed Canon grip for the 5d3.

Personally, I wouldn't get the batteries from eBay, just because you don't know anything about them.

Been using Wasabi batteries for years now, no problems ever in T2i, T3i, or 60d. Just got a Meike grip for the T3i and so far no issues.

I had the Meike on my t3i, and the Zeikos on my 7D, and never had a problem with them. I've heard good things about Vello, which you can get from B&H, but I did finally break down and get a genuine article Canon for my 5D MKIII as it just didn't make sense to spend $3000 on a body and flinch at $300 for a grip.

Basically some 3rd party vendors do make decent grips. Others are horrible I imagine. It's good to know. I just return my t4i to bestbuy. It turns out the rebel wasn't my cup of tea. I'll be trying to pick up another used 7D. Thanks guys!

I can recommend the Zeikos grip. I have been using it on my T1i and it has been solid with no problems.
