Amazon seems to be enjoying the fruits of those loading them up with fresh inventory at a loss to end sellers.

One of the quotes:-

"Is there anyway we can have this changed? My friend was telling me that quite a few of their friends, where they attend college, are buying things from Amazon (for Christmas) and then are going to claim they never received the item so that they can get it for free! (since most items only have delivery confirmation and not a signature confirmation with the order)."

Now I don't even want to go how parents raise these kind of kids.

makes me rethink selling on amazon.

People like that make sick, if you can't/won't pay for it wait and save up. Don't try to lie to get an item. That is what is wrong with this world today.

You know, let's keep them in Amazon.com..... I have sold few things on Ebay and haven't had much problems.

Is just that if people find ways to get away with not paying for items, they will.

It's becoming a growing trend with online sales as more and more folks learn to game the system. It's easier then ever to forget that sellers are real people who suffer real losses. This loophole was not created by Amazon, Ebay or Paypal either as many will believe. It was created by Mastercard and Visa who care nothing about merchants. The banks and card associations only care about making billions off transactions and ruling the world economy. So it will take an act of Congress to end this type of theft which is unlikely to happen until someone convinces the media to bring it out in the open.

Doesn't simply shipping with signature confirmation solve at least part of this issue?

Not saying that should be necessary, or that people shouldn't be honest, but let's face it, lots of people just pretty much suck.

They can claim it was in a condition other than what was listed, claim they didn't receive the correct number of items, etc. signature confirmation only proves they received it. Plus it cost $2.50 which is a lot if you are selling items with lower margins.

I have sold a lot there and never had a probem of any kind. Recently sold my 85l and 70-200 2.8ii there and both went well.

This is not what I want to read today, after my 50D just sold this morning and I shipped it off earlier. Now there's to hoping everything goes well, but I did purchase insurance and delivery confirmation..

That's at least a bit reassuring since those are quite some big ticket items.

People forget that when they setup shop virtually on Ebay, Amazon, Craigslist, or where ever, they are effectively operating like a store. Stores have a cost of goods lost to shop lifting, buyer fraud, etc.. This should be factored into using these types of storefronts. ANY transactions that involve credit cards favor the buyer in a dispute, and the seller eats the loss. If you have a merchant account as a business, you agree to do this. In fact, I accepted American Express for a while and they changed their policy for small businesses that if a buyer lodged a dispute, the chargeback was automatic without the seller (me) even having an opportunity to defend myself. With Mastercard/Visa, they still favor the buyer, but you at least get a chance to tell your side. Amex cut that off, and so I stopped accepting them. This was just for small sellers below a certain threshold.

I sell on here and craigslist only. I meet in person in public places. I have been screwed on ebay, and I just don't trust anyone anymore. When I do ship, I get insurance and I make sure it has delivery confirmation. I am starting to record packing the item too. Its ridiculous. I've read all the loopholes these buyers have at a lot of places and honestly, why even bother with most of them anymore. Paypal is also pretty terrible now.

Large stores can absorb it through volume but small fish not so much. You simply can't sell your goods at 25% higher price just to account for potential losses or you will be penalized with slow sales.
