I have a custom built (Puget Systems) that has been rock solid for a year.

3 weeks ago, I installed PS CS-3 and since then there has been an "Unknown Network" on my system, and I have been experiencing random crashes (failure to wake from sleep) and network disconnects.

Puget suggested that I roll back to a state prior to the PS install. THAT FIXED IT.

I then reinstalled PS, and the problem returned. So we know the culprit, we just don't know why or what to do. Puget is baffeled as well. Adobe help is useless.

This is a fully paid, registered, boxed version of CS-3, not a bootleg.

Anyone else have a problem similar???

No idea what the exact cause is but I can say that CS3 was really an awful version of PS (especially Bridge). Really buggy causing lots of crashes. CS4 and CS5 were extremely stable for me.

Sorry, Rad. Can't help either. I jumped from CS2 to CS5. CS5 is installed on a Win 7/64 system and is rock solid. If neither the hardware company nor Adobe can help, you might be left with the only solution being an upgrade. If you've talked to anybody at Adobe, perhaps you can use the problem (and their inability to help you fix it) as a bargaining chip to get a discount on the upgrade. Good luck.

Got any more info about the error message? How exactly does the "Unknown Network" show up? Adobe uses network access as part of its security, at least in CS4 and later. Since they don't sell CS3 anymore, they may have disabled the servers that supported security for it - so what are you seeing?

In my network window, it listed as a network. The title is "Unknown Network" It is clickable, and the listed amount of incoming and outgoing data is identical to the amount listed on my actual "Network 3".

There are no error messages.

I sometimes do and sometimes don't have connectivity, and in either case the reported "internet" or "no internet" will be the same regardless of which network I look at.

When I don't have connectivity I will disable either network, the unknown or the actual one, then both will disappear from the networking window. After disabling then I troubleshoot and reinitialize. Once that is done, then only the actual "Network 3" will populate the networking window and this will reestablish connectivity.

I have a total of two Photoshop installations - I am using CS-5 on my photo machine, but I needed CS-3 on my home PC to access the ability to generate multipage PDFs. This functionality is absent on CS-5 (single page only).

Thank you for your interest, I hope this information presents my problem in a manner that is easily understood.

Does your system have two Ethernet connections? If so, are both connected?
Are you also maybe concurrently running wifi?
When you run a CMD window and run ipconfig /all how many ip addresses does your system have?

FINALLY found the solution.

Henry - sorry I didn't get back, but everyting in you post was OK - one ethernet, no wifi, one IP address, etc.

The problem WAS photoshop.

PSCS 3 dumps a piece of crapware called Bonjour on the system - once it's there, it can't be uninstalled, but it can be disabled.

I followed the instructions from the following "SevenForums" thread and the issue is resolved.
