2012 ended up being a great year. We expanded to offer full season coverage for a couple of clients. This has expanded to many more clients and more media outlets for 2013. We even had an invite to a private test day to do photos and a video. Cannot wait for 2013 to unfold!

Some favorites from 2012.

All excellent shots! Hard to pick a favorite but I'm leaning towards #4 just 'cause it's Road Atlanta.

1, 2 and 3 wouldn't have even made it off my camera, sorry but the 'fad' wore thin a long time ago (please don't be offended - my opinion only - feel free to swear at your screen) really liking the rest with #4 the true standout, love the low view point and the evening light is superb - yep you nailed that one

What 'fad' are you referring to? I understand shot 1, 2 and 3 do not offer the same type of results as others in the series and from your previous replies I understand if it is not a tried and true(and to be blunt boring) 'standard motorsport/racing photo' you do not like it.

Also number 3 is cars racing into the sunset. Would you call the classic photos from say Sebring a fad? What part of a sports car racing with the sun setting behind the track is a fad?

Shot 1 I took and shared and soon after the team marketing/PR person contacted me looking to purchase rights for printing. They wanted the shot in their shop. I also have a friend that now has a 5ft tall stretched canvas print of shot 1.

For my clients the commercially viable shots are number one but their favorite shots are the ones that the envelope is pushed. Shots that are outside the norm. Shots that make you think. Shots that immediately give you a sense of speed. A sense of the venue. A shot that tells a story. And in the end those are some of my favorite shots as well.

I have to disagree, those types of shots aren't 'fads' because they're not standard, boring 3/4 shots that 99% of people take. They're a bit different and show a bit of thought, planning and execution has gone into them.

Great shots btw...

- and what I really love is the way everyone has different views / styles and ideas, and a damn good job we all like something different otherwise it would be a very boring place indeed - as i said - it wasn't meant to offend BUT it really does get people talking. Just because I'm one of the people that don't 'get it' doesn't make it wrong! Shot into the sun one's just look washed out to me.

The 'fad' I was referring to is the absolutely nothing in focus / tiny subject point / through the trees or crowd or armco type of shot, all you need to do now is make it B&W and you can push it to the 'arty' crowd as well.

AGAIN - please don't take offence!!! I know of a several sports photographers here that have been doing these for a while and a couple of them that got asked 'politely' by the team to stop with the arty cr*p and take some shots where you can see the car / circuit / sponsors. It's horses for courses as the old saying goes.

Have a virtual drink or three on me, and have a great holiday break!

.DAVID.

Going to 'shut up' now and give up honest critiquing as it seems to offend anyway

I am not offended one bit. I was simply stating my side of the story and how it simply differs from yours. I appreciate the open discussion in fact so please do not just stop replying :)

If you look at my galleries in full you will see not only the 'artsy' stuff that you dislike but strong commercially viable photos. This year my photos were used for:

-Team Shirt
-iPhone Case
-Shop Doors
-Sponsor Gifts/Poster

I completely understand your point of view in terms of photographic preferences. I just think you should not dismiss the photos simply because it is more on the artistic side. For media outlets they get the tried and true work as that is what they prefer. However many online blogs, some of the most popular ones, do have fans that enjoy more than the boring panning shot.

Photo 1 - Super artistic I agree. However the photo is from IMS. You cannot easily know what the car is but someone that knows the CTSCC series would know it is an Aston Martin Vantage campaigned by Multimatic. The sense of speed caused by the color blur is what makes the photo.

Photo 2 - Shot 2. It's quickly becoming a classic Road America shot. It's an interesting view. A view that many fans actually see with their owns eyes as they walk down the wooden stairs to the grand stands at Canada Corner.

Photo 3 - It's a sunset shot. It's washed out because it is golden hour but that was the point. I went to the spot at the specific time because I knew what light would be present.
