Hey folks,

I've had the Canon Pixma ip5000 for what seems like forever. It's still going strong and the photos still looks very nice. For more serious printing I've got the Pro 9000 MKII.

My wife recently got the Canon MX432 as a gift from her company. The photos look very shabby compared to the ip5000 but what I really like about it is the wireless printing capability. It's VERY convenient. It'll do as our all-purpose printer, although the price of ink is rather outrageous. And it's through ink like there is no tomorrow.

One problem that I have with all these printers is that I am unable to print on a CD/DVD directly. I want that capability.

So with that said, let's talk about the replacement for the ip5000. I see they now have the ip7220. It has wireless printing and can print on a CD/DVD. LINK (external link)

Looks like a suitable replacement for the ip5000.

Any of you guys have experience with this printer?

Any other suggestions in the same price range, perhaps from other companies? Keep in mind I already have an multi-function printer in the MX432.

Thanks!

The iP7220 shows on Canon website as 'New', so far less likely that folks here have one yet.

I was thinking that it was maybe time to switch from my reliable iP4000, but it seems that the Canon line of photo printers that are not all-in-one (copier/scanner) has become quite limited, and 5-ink is displaced by 8 ink in the iP7220...bother, I prefer fewer tanks with more capacity, not more inks with less capacity!

The ip7220 still has the 5 ink system.

I was also looking at this one:

Anyone have any opinions about the MG6220?

Used to be $199, but now on clearance for $99 since the replacement model just came out.

Looks pretty good. 6 ink system with grey ink. Pretty much everything else you can think of including CD/DVD printing, which is something I need.

Thoughts?

Having second thoughts about the recent Pixma printers since reading that they go through ink like there is no tomorrow thanks to the constant "cleaning" cycles.
It's too bad I can't find a CD tray for my i5000. I found out I can flash the firmware to a European version to activate CD printing.
