[QUOTE=tmalone893;15543633]Hard to beat the Yongnuo for the price. I like your set up.

Thanks tmalone. Your images look fantastic.

When I started, I used one light aimed to the front of the basket on each side. I started using the two-light setup in order to get better photos beyond the key, and the fill light to reduce heavy shadows in crowded shots. Still trying new ideas to both improve the coverage (or, definitely not reduce it) and simplify the setup.

Thanks golman128!
I have close to the same setup you have, except I use two 430 EX II's on one end of the court. Good stuff!

Yes. You do some great work!
I think one aspect most people should consider as good a reason for off-camera lighting is the lack of significant falloff/blowout for subjects at different distances. It's one of the things I like best about the second photo I posted. When I used a single flash on-camera, the TTL would either underexpose the main subject in the distance, or blow out the closer players. I now feel confident taking shots of action anywhere on the court, without having to worry about too much "creative cropping."

Here are a couple of images from a summer league. This was the first game I photographed after switching to two speedlights per side.

Not the stellar shots of you "big guns", but I am taking dutiful notes on all your techniques. :)

That's my boy!

GREAT stuff Danny and Theron!! I really think you'll find, Danny, that the poorly lit gyms will result in better images. Next time you post pics post one of the images with the trigger turned off but at the same settings. I would like to see how much ambient light you are getting. I'll try and find one to post from the last game I shot.

Her ya go Von...

Flash shot...

This is a different gym, but as Von said, I can adjust the flash.
My settings were:
2 - 430 EX II's on 1/4 power, 50mm
1/200 @ f/4
ISO 500

Senior Night tonight at my home gym!
I'll post some of those also.
I may try a different set up for the festivities. Maybe reposition my flashes and aim them to mid court which is where they normally stand.

Haha! I hear ya!!
This is how I got into off camera flash, I bought some cheap Ebay triggers, two Vivitar 285 HV flashes, some clamps I modified to hold the flash and triggers, and started shooting.
I still have the Vivitar flash units and Ebay triggers. I just gradually updated as I could.
There's always something else I need/want though.
Oh the hobby we have! Love it!!

My first time shooting a basketball game. Auditorium was horribly lit, with no flash allowed. I took tons of pictures but here are just a few.

Given the limitations of the lighting and your equipment. Probably as good as can be expected.

Not seeing the face in #1 ruins it for me.

I really like your timing in the other shots.

Thank you rdalrt. :)

I don't wanna bore you guys with to many more crappy quality pictures but as yo can see all they had was very sparingly placed florescent lights with brown ceiling. I don't call myself a photographer but talk about photographer's worst nightmare. :D

A few more.

I thought the fighting Irish would have a bigger gym than that! Maybe they have a 'make believe' gym!?
