It seems the blue cmos thingo has gone, only yeliding red and green... What do people think? is it repairable?

Thanks!

Alex.

Huh?

It's a ketchup bottle with a fluorescent orange price tag.
Both images have blue in them.
The white balance may be a bit off, but otherwise they look fine.
Is your monitor calibrated?

do you see the desk? It's goes black and white-ish half way through the colours.... especially in the first image.

I know the WB is out but it surely it cant be that (its just a quick few snaps i took to test the cam), the effect wouldnt bo so noticable. you'd get smooth colour even with the whitebalance set way out. Im using apple cinema displays to look at the image...

There is glare from a window (?) on the right of the first image but if you look at the colour in th notebook (red cover) on the right it is still there.
What else is wrong on your monitor?
The second image looks fine all the way across.

yea they looked messed up.
The desk looks like it just threw in some color here and there where it wanted to.

Yeah I noticed the colors on the desk looked a little weird, but other parts of the image seem to be ok. When viewed at 100%, the orangish-brown shows up in blotches.

It doesn't seem right.

In technical terms, I'd say it's hosed.

Canon should be able to give an estimate for repair, but it's likely time for a replacement anyway.

Either relable it your official special effects camera or send it to Canon.

Were these shot in raw or did they come out like that straight out of the camera in JPEG format?

Yep... try shooting a colour chart or something... under a known light source like, er, daylight.

Good luck.

I think you have some settings set wrong in the camera or post processing.

The Sensor itself looks fine and you would not have just the blue (or green) channels go out on a CMOS or CCD sensor go out. Both types of sensors use a bayer filter array. The only way a particular set of filters could go out is if the sensor was hit with a specific frequency of laser with just the right intensity to affect only those pixels filtered for that channel a highly unlikely set of events. Also the colors that do look right require some green and blue to be correct.

I would take some more pictures of other items then the desk and then if still seeing problems then I would next recommend looking in the manual and reseting all settings to their default values. If it then is still producing problems then call Canon. It is possible the processor is buggy.

Actually are you sure you did not delete the green channel somehow in PS.

Possible not a sensor problem, as there are samples from all three base clours.
I appears like the picture gets suddenly desaturated as the lightness, I=( 0.3R + 0.6G + 0.1B ) reach a certain value.
I wonder if the price label were blue or green, how would have showed.
Are these raw or jpg?
Anyway, befor sending it back To repair, try resetting the camera and reinstalling the firmware. The issue may be at the interpolation level.

It looks like the nasty effects you can sometimes get when using earlier versions of CS2's ACR to convert 1DS files (which that shot is by the way).

Take a more sensible test shot and convert with DPP or another RAW converter, not ACR.
