case for G6

Hi all,
I'm new to the forum and to the G6, having just picked one up a few days ago--my first digital camera (I use Canon lenses and a film SLR).

I'm wondering if anyone could recommend a case/bag for it. I have Lowepro bags for my other camera gear, but am looking for something small just for the G6 and maybe a couple of CF cards, remote etc. Given the camera's size, I'm finding it a bit hard to find something that isn't too bulky.

Also, as I'm new to this camera (and difital photography in general), could anyone recommend other sites/forums devoted specifically to the G6?

Thanks in advance for your advice.:)

I have a Lowepro Edit 110, it fits perfectly on its side with enough room for the charger, extra battery, cables, and my iPod in the main compartment, then I keep my remote and extra CF card in the side pockets.

Best Buy or any camera shop will have several bags that work, just go check 'em out. i was going nuts online trying to find one, but in person it was easy to decide.

This forum is for all-G-series and Pro-1 cameras, but they're all very similar to the G6 and the G6 is probably the most popular camera on this list (Unless maybe it's Pro1), so this is the place to be.

I'll echo Bryan's suggestion: take your camera to a couple of local camera stores, and try the bags out with your camera in them.
Even though the G is reasonably light, I'd still suggest a strap with a padded & rubberized shoulder pad. Cheaper bags often come with a simple nylon strap with no shoulder pad--not only do these hurt after a while, they slide off your shoulder far too easily.
If you think you'll use the bag outdoors much, think about one that is water-proof, or comes with a rain cover (LowePro models have an "AW" in their name for this feature--All Weather).

Also consider getting a bag with enough room to accomodate a spare battery (which is on my short list of must-have accessories).

Hi Ichabod!

Welcome!

Anyways, we are at the same boat. New to digital camera - from film SLR. And then I got my G6. I'm using a Tamrac case. On Tamrac website, you can see the camera fit chart. It says if you have G6, use model 5693. I bought that one but it's too snug. And if you try to check the on button of G6, it's easy to accidentally switch it when you slide through the case. So I switched it to 5694. Just the right size. If you need to buy additional lenses, you have to look for another model though. But for cards etc, that will be fine.

About suggestions about your new cam, ask the masters lol. I just had my cam last month. Bryan, Bottom, dbump and mark have been helpful. So are the other members.

Enjoy!

I had a Tamrac like Sophia. But soon added a lens adapter and 420ex. Now I have a LowePro EX 120 or 140 I can't remember as it isn't in front of me right now. lol
It is snug getting the G6 with the lens adapter and the 420ex in there. So it all depends on your plans for your new camera.

Just like to add...

Tamrac 5694 only fits extra cards. I haven't tried it with charger and spare batteries. What I usually do is that whenever I use it, I fully charge it first then go out - just my extra cards in that bag. I just went out-of-state last month and I put the charger etc. on my luggage then my tamrac 5694 with my fully charged cam as my hand carry. I just like my cam bag fits inside my personal bag. But if you are a person that you like your G6, extra batt, and charger all at the same cam bag, then go for the Lowerpro as they suggested. Fully charged battery is about 500+- shots. That will last for a whole day - for me. Depends on your style though. Usually when I travel, I have my cam bag and a backpack. Camera is just on my neck. I keep the cam bag in my backpack. Passports, money etc. Well, for right now, whenever I go to work or school, I put the camera with cam bag on my shoulder bag. If there is action, it's just easy to pull the trigger. Ok, I talk too much:)

Hello Mr. Crane, welcome to the forum! I believe all questions pertaining to your G6 can be answered here. If yu need answers in a jiffy, you can use the search function of the forum, or you can post specific uestions here and we will try to help.

Camera bags are very subjective. I personally like a bag that doesn't look like it contains a camera. For my G6, I use Timbuk2 and Crumpler messenger bags. I use a fleece jacket as padding, which doubles as a warm coat fpr me when t gets cold.

Everyone else is helpful, I just talk a lot and break CF card pins.

Can't help on the bag, but I recommend the book "A Short Course in the Canon G6" if you are a relative newbie. It explains the principles of photography and applies it to your camera.

I have a Tamrac 5685, as you can see in my signature. And all that stuff down there fits in it perfectly, it's a nice balance of looks and flexibility.

WOW!!! this is kinda not related but... Bottom Bracket mentioned a Crumpler bag. The Crumpler website is one of the funniest sites out there.... whether or not you buy a bag from them go check it out for a good laugh (juvenile humor)!

I use a Lowe Pro EX 140 to carry my G6 and 420 EX flash. When I want to carry the G6, wide angle converter and teleconverter, along with the flash, I use this great Canon bag bought at B&H (at $24.95, it's a great deal): http://www.bhphotovideo.com …EG&addedTroughType=search (external link)

you might also want to consider the tamrac velocity 4 or 6. Personally, I find the sling bag most appealing.:)
