See photo at bottom of post. Is there some way to buy a replacement. Seems one came loose! Oopsy! EF 300/2.8 - Wondering if anyone had any luck going local and potentially finding a replacement. Or maybe CPS has helped someone?

Go to your local Canon service center and see if they have one in stock. If not they can order it for you.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

One on eBay seems to be one size too big. Will not fit the hole unfortunately. I'll have to call around.

Or any other ideas? Parts?

Doubtful... the lens is out of service and the parts are probably no longer available from Canon, but you can always try.

looking at this:
http://www.micro-tools.net …20300%202.8%20L%20USM.pdf (external link)

I'd think you'd be looking for parts #:
XA1-3200-806
XA1-3200-506
XA1-7200-559
XA1-7260-609

now whether or not you can find those, i'm not sure...

this site looks like it has the same part number(2nd one listed) under canon microfilm parts...a 10 pack is only $1.65

Bumping this. Called Canon parts. Seems it is discontinued. The PAM place is hard to get a hold of. Not sure how this screw was never used in another part. Lady at Canon Parts said it's totally dead end part number. Even sent CPS a letter when they were servicing two of my lenses. They said call Canon Parts.

Is there some specialty screw store out there? Or some other way? Seems silly that a lens loses it's hood over one screw falling out.

I did some measurements today.

It's 1/16" so #0 Metric screw. Size 0 head/phillips. It is 3/16 of an inch. So I spent 7 dollars from McMaster-Carr and have a 100 pack en route ordered to those specs. Hope it works :)

I'm in exactly the same situation (got the 300 2.8 L USM ie the NON-IS version) and missing these screws.

But didn't quite catched the measurements. First of all, is the threads in metric or inch-based?

1/16" - so the nominal diameter was the M1.6 size?
The thread pitch, was it 0.35mm? I think that is the standard for the M1.6 diameter.
So I'm looking for a M1.6x0.35 screw - right?

What about the head, from the photo it looks like a normal panhead. With Phillips design, as you stated. But what's the diameter? Is it 3/16" (ie roughly 4.75mm)? Correct?

I've found very tiny screw and tried them on my ET-118 II hood.

And regarding the thread size, they matched exactly. These were M1.8x0.35 (1.8mm nominal diameter and 0.35mm pitch) screws, with a pan head diameter of 3 mm.

@dinanm3atl : Was these the measurements you got on your screw as well? The order you placed, have you received it? Did they fit?

No. It was surprisingly probably 1 or 2 sizes too small. Going to go to McMaster-Carr(location in Atlanta). They can pull screws and find the winner I think.

Did you try those numbers? And get it fitted? With one screw in and tight it works. But would like both in there so it won't be prone to loosening.

I've tried a M1.8x0.35 screw that I found in my house and it was a perfect match.
So a M1.8x0.35 is definately the correct size.

However, now I need to find two M1.8x0.35 with suitable length (the one I had in my house was way too short (the proper length should be around 5 mm). Will search the net and make some calls.
