I had the priviledge to be at this years Rose Parade. Being from Colorado, I always imagined it being 10 degrees and snowy here and 70 degrees and sunny in California! Well, It was warmer and way drier in Greeley, CO than "sunny" Pasadena! I have never been so drenched. I used my rebel and a Sigma 28-300 to be my "light travel kit" for the parade. I tried to keep the camera either in the Adorama slinger or under a plastic garbage bag, only bringing it out to snap photos. Well, it got drenched. When we got back to the hotel, you could see water drops inside the lens and the camera would not turn on. I feared the worst!. After leaving it 24 hours in front of a heat vent,I reinstalled the battery and lo and behold, it seems to be working fine, with no sign of moisture andwhere!:D I know this was foolhardy, but I figured I would never get another chance to see the parade. By this weekend, I may have time to process and share some shots.

Glad to hear the camera is ok. I'll keep mine away from rain. :)

Oh, that is one of my biggest fears, water! I did 3 weddings in the rain and I had umbrella holders so that was convenient. Then this last summer I had a wedding and it rained buckets. I had my trusty shower cap and umbrella holder and everything went well. But I don't know what I would have done if I got water in the lens or camera itself. Oh, I'd be sick.

This is exactly why I keep one of these in my bag at all times. Being from Iowa the weather changes every minute so it is essential to be prepared if you want to get good photos.

this year's Rose Parade is the only year that I can remember that wasn't sunny. I'm glad your XT's ok... too bad for your experiance... and it only rain for one day.

I had the same issue years ago with a Canon Elan film camera. Got very wet. However, It stills works to this day after drying out. But on very humid or wet days, it seems it can act a little weird at times. For example, the battery will flash like it is totally drained. Turn it off and back on again and it is fine. So, I guess what I am saying, you may still have little gremlins from time to time, but don't give up on it.

Thanks, Paul

I am glad to hear that your camera is working well after the rain parade. :)

By the way, did you happen to get any photos of the Hoover Marching Band or the UAH Marching Band?

Kerry, I haven't had time to see which bands I got. I know I got USC and Texas. Also, the bands from Mexico, Japan and Hawaii. As an old drum and bugle corp dad and enthusiast, I am always very attentive to the bands. They don't get neat enough attention for their hard work and great skill!

Just hundreds of electrical connections that can corrode. Marko is extremely lucky his camera still works. There could be long term implications that may yet to appear. If it were my camera I would send it off to Canon for a looksee.

Thanks. I was just checking. I am from the Birmingham area and thought I would show some people some photos if you did get a few.

Jacket or no jacket, my camera is not going to play in the rain. Although I can see where pros would have to be more versatile.

Mark's experience and others' seems to indicate the DReb is very susceptible to problems with the merest exposure to moisture ... Worrying :-(
