Gettysburg National Military Park, PA

These are just a few of the many farms and building on the battlefield at Gettysburg National Military Park Pennsylvania. Living close by I walk the battlefield with my camera on a weekly basis and I never tire of learning and photographing buildings and monuments. The white barn in particular is at Meades Head Quarters; in the background is the large Pennsylvania monument and little round top behind that.

I'll have to visit there sometime. It would be interesting to walk the area to get a feel for where the units were, and the fields of fire. The first shot looks really bleak.

I've visited once. You don't appreciate the lay of the land, the position of the cannons, the supply lines, nor the final charge until you put your feet on the soil. You can sell the family on a trip to Hershey Park and secretly take a detour to Gettysburg .

First is nice with the naturally muted color.

This is an absolute fact. I have been there many times and I can stand in certain places and know what took place there and be nearly moved to tears. The wheat field is one of them. It can be a very emotional experience.

One of my favorite things to do is to go out on the battlefield at night. To stand and think about what took place there is overwhelming. It's beautifully quiet and peaceful. I'm pretty sure they have since made going out there after dark a no no.

If you've never been you need to.

I love #2. I wish I could visit there. The furthest east I've ever been is Missouri.

I've visited the park on numerous occasions (my job entails traveling to Emmitsburg MD a few times a year) and have always felt it was a very special place.

saea501, I'm pretty sure the battlefield opens at 6 am and closes at 10 pm.

viperbass, I have many images of the Rose Farm, it is also one of my favorites. I'll try to post a few.

My favorite time to visit the park is very early in the morning when few if any visitors are around. I normally walk the park by myself and that early it gets a little spooky at times. The best time to visit for a photo shoot is just after a snow storm when all the monuments are covered of fresh snow.
