I have a dilemma here, let`s say Santa has put some cash aside just for me(£1000) but it`s my choice of what to get for the money. Currently I have a Canon 50D(hardly use anymore) and 5D classic and the following lenses: Canon 17-40mm,50mm 1.8,100mm 2.8, Sigma 120-400mm. Whilst in good natural light all capable of decent results I struggle to take decent shots in low light, handheld and the noise on high ISO is "painful" (especially on 5D).I see myself being orientated towards portraiture lately so what would you guys buy: a new body or a good lens(given all the gear I listed above).Thanks.

I appreciate the way you worded the title for this thread - you asked what I would go for, instead of asking what I think you should go for. It's much more fun to answer questions the way you asked them!

So, what I would go for, if I had 1,000 pounds (around $1700 US dollars, right?) is:

Canon's 180mm L series macro lens, and maybe some lighting to use for macro (just some cheap 3rd party flash or something - if there was enough left over after buying the lens).

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

with that kind of money, if you like portraiture, I'd definitely go with the sigma 85 used and if you sell your 5dc you should be able to buy a 5d mark ii used.

Or you could do sigma 85 + sigma 35 if you buy used.

I would (for myself) get a 7D body only. If I had money left over, I'd then grab a Sigma 50mm f1.4

I got my 85L II for just a shade over £1k. That would be a good jump in IQ over what you have in lenses and would stay with you when you update bodies.

5dc and 85L make a great combo for portraits Personally I'd much prefer that over any 7d/sigma combo as time and experience have taught me to sell 7d and Sigmas

Either a used 5DII or a new Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 OS (or used Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 I). Otherwise save a little more and get the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 MKII.

Thanks for Reading & Good Luck - Jim

If I had that sum, I'd probably go for fish and chips since I'd probably be in the U.K.
