So much better in what way?
Why are u comparing a tele portait lens to a 85l lens?
Well, given the focal length, I think for portraits, the 70-200 is the way to go. The bokeh aesthetic has a sweet spot it seems at a very specific distance, and everything else is just aright. The compression is one thing, though that can be achieved with other lenses. Focus speed was nice, but still the 70-200 is better, and if discreet tele is the only unique selling point, well then alright, but that isn't something I'm looking for.
Just from a user point of view, after owning many Canon primes and loving them, this lens just didn't do it for me.
