5d mkiii and 580exii focus assist problem

I have looked and haven't found an answer so maybe you can help. I am not sure if my body or flash is malfunctioning or if it is a setting.

I can only get the flash to use the IR assist when he camera is in on full auto (green box). When I am in manual or tv/av priorities it won't trigger the IR assist. I went through all of he menus and the IR assist is enabled.

Any suggestions? Figured I would ask here before calling canon.

You know I am almost always in servo mode. I didn't even think about that. Just tried it and it fires the ir in manual mode now.
