Best modifier for hairlight?

Do you guys normally shoot bare/with the standard 6 to 10 inch (depending on the strobe) silver reflector for hair light purposes?.. or do you guys use some sort of a soft box / modifier for hair light?

I mostly use 2 of my strobes as main lights / fill lights and use sun as the hair light outdoors.. but wondering what kind of reflector / modifier i should use for a hair light indoors.

Unfortunately, this depends on what you like and what you're trying to accomplish with the shot. Sometimes I'll use a gridded 7" reflector as a hair light modifier because I want a small, controlled "blast" of light to the hair or shoulder. Other times, I want a more subtle, softer hair and accent light and use a small gridded stripbox. I always use a gridded modifier for my hair light to more precisely control where the light goes, but the modifier itself "depends." My preference is a small gridded strip box (like 9"x36") for individuals and small groups.

Indoors I also like gridded stripbox.

I typically use a standard 7" parabolic reflector with grid or a 12"x36" strip with grid.....

Gridded speedlight, gridded 7" parabolic, gridded stripbox - I've also used mirrors on occasion to pick up intentional spill from one of the other lights. Basically, whatever gets the job done in the circumstances.

aside from what is stated.. .I even use a gridded beauty dish for a hairlight from time to time

for the studio I prefer a soft box overhead on a boom over and slightly behind the subject so it spills on the shoulders and the hair but not on the face of front of the sitter. It give nice shoulder and hair separation.
