7D and 600EX-RT flash

Soon after I bought 580ii flash - I realized that it can be used off camera wireless.

I was using 60D at the time though I had a chance to try it with 7D and with both cameras I think it was a hit or miss and the flash had to be aligned a certain way otherwise it would not communicate.

Now I got the 600EX-RT - and wow - the connection is so much better - I no longer have to align the camera a certain way.
Is there something different about they way it connects to 7D?

I own and use 2x 430EXII and Im looking to get a couple of 600EX-RT's myself.

The 7D has an optical master only. Thus it uses the same principle for communicating with both your flashes. But provided there's a clear view between master and slave flash, or something useful to reflect the light from, they work fairly well. Indoors.
Outdoors it's much more delicate. The 600 EX-RT has radio control too, but the 7D can't utilize that without a separate controller.
