OK is it just me or has anyone else had issues with batteries in the grip? I'm having weird problems where the charge holds for a few days most of the time and other times after a few shots the low battery indicator is showing in the camera. I have to recharge and then it's normal again.

I've heard from an XT owner that he has similar results but does not have the grip. Charger? Batteries?

I tend to think it happens more if I have the grip shutter button enabled.

There are a vocal group of grip users on this forum who insist that all problems with the 20D grip have been resolved. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to be the case at all. It sounds like the flex issue and other problems continue to plague many.

I don't think that anyone's (but Canon) ever claimed that "all problems with the 20D grip have been resolved". Canon never officially recognized the problem being described as "flexing", and that wasn't a universal problem. Canon did offer a fix for the "false low battery" problem, however subsequent user reports seem to suggest that that's only partially effective (although the original problem here too wasn't universal).
I had one of the first grips, and never had a flexing problem. The false low-battery problem was so bad that I just stopped using the grip early on, however. It's since been repaired (they essentially replaced the guts with those from a new one according to the work order), but I'd got so accustomed to not using it that it just sits on the shelf now. My bag's pretty full without tossing the grip onto the body anyhow.

I have had the grip on my 20D for about 9 months and never had a single problem with it . I like the way it feels and balances with the grip and wouldn't be with out it now . I have fairly large hands and before the grip my little finger was under the camera and only half of the next finger was on the camera . Much better this way .

Have you been loading the batteries into the grip before or after the grip is attached. In the manual, it says to make sure you attach the grip first and then insert the batteries. I have done this in reverse and my low battery meter goes off. Since I have been attaching the grip first and then inserting the batteries, no problems.

Good Luck

Ryan

I had the usual 20D grip issues too..Until i got some "cheap" high capacity batteries from 7dayshop.com.

Since i started using them i have not had a single false low battery warning....

I also fixed the "flex" issue with a bit of Velcro.

The grip has been on since the day I bought it and the batteries go in the charger at least every 3 days. So I'm hoping this exchange of batteries for charging should of ruled this out.

So what does the flex issue cause BTW??

Untimely camera shut-down, possibly causing loss of pictures, lock-up, or card corruption in extreme cases.

A little velcro should fix it though. Doing that after I get mine back from Canon.
