I am looking into picking one of these guys up and was wondering what is considered a decent discount on a new 70-200 ii?
And what is the lowest they have been from bh, amazon, etc.

Thanks,

$1999 seems to be a great price that it dips to.

Is this a low? Or does it periodically dip below this point?

Thanks Shine. I'll look into that company. Though I tend to stay away from ebay purchases even if the seller has perfect ratings.

Actually, in my opinion, it is better to buy through ebay than just directly buying from their online store. If you buy directly, credit card company is only the fallback option. Through ebay, you have paypal and credit card company to ask for help if things go south. You also get ebay bucks and cashback through cashback sites. PMI digital and profeel are the same company as far as I know and authorized dealer.

For a reputable dealer without going through some hoops, yes.

1999$ from amazon with 2% back. So that sounds like a pretty good deal.

thats plain stupid. when purchasing from a reputable dealer, you don't need to worry about "if things go south". The reputable dealer and credit card company is enough without the intrusion of paypal. The reason why ebay has that extra layer of protection is because "things went south" quite a few times.

Filing a claim through paypal is a joke. I’ve had do to it a couple of times (as a buyer), and each time fell back on my credit card to escalate the claim so it would be handled in a reasonably. Paypal drags their feet when it comes to handling claims (the dispute process is very convoluted and involves a lot of back and forth correspondence), but most credit card companies will credit you back immediately while the dispute is handled.

He did not know about the company although their name comes quite often here in market watch section. I also got the impression that he was actually afraid because it was through Ebay. Perhaps don't know many companies (adaorama/beach/etc...) sell through Ebay. We are not talking about some random person selling in Ebay here. In this particular instance, considering that he does not know the company, buying through ebay could help him and would not miss the deal.
You see here people doing google price search and ask whether this place selling 70-200L II for $1399 is reputable. That tells me that there are many actually ordering directly from these type of places.

Anyway, I'll try one more time to help and I'm out. Adorama has it for $1999 with 2% gift card same as Amazon/B&H and some other places . Go through mrrebates that will give you 3% cashback. If you are using VISA, use code VISA12B for another $50 gift card (http://www.adorama.com/visa (external link)). That is $1850 after everything. Also, Adorama has a new VIP program that you can add 1 year warranty extension for $7.95 (http://www.adorama.com/pages/vip (external link)). This is new so time will tell how good it works.

I'm opening it for discussion of whether Adorama is considered reputable :) So you guys can argue until the deal expires!

This thread belongs to market watch section by the way

If you can get one for under 2g's your golden, when I'm buying something that expensive I personally want a brand-new copy though. I always get everything from B&H because they have reasonable prices, and get stuff to my house is almost always 2 days. This thing is leap and bounds better than any of the other previous 2.8s its a gorgeous lens and my most used.

Your better off taking up a claim with credit company then trying to deal with ebay and paypal, especially if its your bank card, I've had disputes settled in 2 days with my bank, they just gave me a credit until they sorted everything out.
