So I find myself down a body after selling my 5D2 a few months back. I have scrapped together enough to cover an additional 6d for my kit, or I could sell the 7d and secure a 5d3. I would still have an XTi on hand for the ow **** moments, either way.

I shot architecture mostly. Some sports for fun (indoor) and the occasional portrait.

Looking for any well meaning advice on the best way to go.

I was just in the same boat. I was waffling between keeping the 7D and getting a 6D, or selling the 7D and getting a MkIII. But with the 7D selling new for $1199 now, I couldn't see taking a big hit on it trying to sell it. There are lots of them out there selling for $900, which would be nearly a $500 loss on a one-year old body for me. Then I'd also have to dump my crop-only lenses. So I settled on the 6D and will keep the 7D.

Just my thought process. Yours may vary.

Thanks for the thoughts. One thing I might ask you. Are you pleased with the way the 6d handles relative to the 7D?

I'm very happy with my 6D/7D combo.
Covers all my bases nicely.

I'll let you know when I actually have the 6D in my hands. Won't be until Jan 2nd.

Just got an email from Amazon upping the delivery date to this Friday. Now I just need to catch the UPS guy. He knows our office is closed until the 2nd, but he should still be driving around campus.

I'd go with the 7D/6D combo if you don't mind having two bodies...that would nicely cover most things...

I, personally, prefer to just have one body, and the best body for me is a FF.

Love my 7D/6D combo! It allows me to use the 7D for when I need speed and reach and the 6D for when I want the best quality.

All depends. If one body then 5dmk3 can do much better everything except the fps.

For indoor sports, the 5D3 trumps the other two by a healthy margin in my opinion. You also mentioned landscape and portrait which either full frame will do well. I didn't see any mention of long reach requirements so I'd go to the 5D3.

I've never used any of the 5D series cameras, but based off what I have read I would choose the 5D3 and down the road pick up an APS-C camera for when "reach" is desired (50D, T2i, or T3i can all be acquired pretty cheaply now...and surely moreso in the months to come). The AF of the 5D3 sounds wicked!
