I have had my 5D for about 2 weeks. $650 with a Canon grip and 3 batteries, mirror fix done. I love my 85 1.8 on it. Google the 5D mirror fix. You can tell by looking at the camera whether or not it has been done.

no dealbreaker for me-

as far as i know, canon will fix the mirror for free.

DO IT!

I just had the mirror fix done preemptively two weeks ago. It took about 8 days turnaround with Christmas mail. Requested and got shutter count and mirror/sensor clean. All for free and no hassle. Thanks, Canon.

The mirror fix is free, even if it has fallen out. Just phone Canon and they will advise you where to send it. Ask them to give you a shutter count and a sensor clean and they will do that for free too.

Man, i don't live in USA or Europe, here they will charge for me and they will never do it free for me, they never help us here in UAE or middle east, but i hope i am wrong and i will give them a call and see.

Best of luck Tareq...I found some posts as late as this past summer of people getting the mirror fixed at no cost.

Decided to hold out and save up for a 5DII...

Thanks for all the comments...

Seller says no repairs made. I have to assume no mirror fix. Dealbreaker?

Not at all. The fix is only needed if you are intending to use the camera in hot and humid conditions a lot. If you don't live in that sort of a climate then the fix is unnecessary.

.also, they *ALL* needed the mirror fix...

Yes ... and no.

You are correct that there wasn't an update to the production model that corrected the mirror fixings, so in that sense yes, they all need the fix. However, there are huge numbers of 5Ds out there that are never used in such a climate (mine included) and so THOSE cameras DON'T need the mirror fix. The mirror fix is hardly mentioned in the UK, and very, very few have been "fixed", yet mirror failures are all but unheard of here.

Canon UK has never offered a free preventative mirror fix to the masses, and most Brits have never seen a need to have it done. Our climate just doesn't reach the hot and humid conditions where it needs the fixings replaced. I am no expert on your climate, but I have never associated the UAE with very high humidity.

Over here, they will do the fix free if you can present a case for needing it. They aren't about to waste a huge amount of money fixing cameras that have nothing wrong with them and aren't going to have the mirror fail anyway, but will fix it free if you tell them you are about to spend two months in the Amazon rainforest, where the problem will quite likely manifest.

It won't hurt to call and ask but, if you aren't going into those sort of conditions, why bother?

I just called Canon to see about getting the fix done on mine. I confirmed that it's still free, and they will also clean the sensor while in there. They're sending my a label to get the process started. Go for it!

Well, i have an idea, i will go to Canon service center to give them my lens 300 2.8IS for service, and while i am there i will give them my Canon 5D and ask them if they can do it free for me, if they reject then it is wasting my money to fix it again, i remember they fixed for me before for $300, i will not pay even $100 if they ask, they only want to blow our money, all my friends are complaining and i never heard one of them fixed something or cleaned sensor or camera for free at all except one time when Canon was in exhibition and they offered free cleaning, once per year.

......

Strange - they are still doing the mirror fix free here in Canada and its far from hot and humid. Its been -24C for the past week.

Maybe the mirror freezes and falls off here!
