My 40D broke. Error 99. I can send it for repair, but talking to folks I may be paying £200 for that when I can buy another with 6 months guarentee for about £250 in excellent condition.

I have a chance of a 1D mkII for £350. It's been used in a studio that is closing down. I would use it for studio work mostly, but I do also do other photos, walking about, photos of kids etc.

I have to decide, well, now really!

What do you guys think?

Cheers

Craig

1DMII depending on what lens you will be using with it of course.

I am biased of course. If you are shooting for long periods of time the one negative would of course be the additional weight of a 1D series body. If you add a 24-70 or 70-200 then you better start bulking up if you aren't already because I've used mine on vacations and you will know it after holding it for long periods of time.

I have basic lenses, only one of which is EF-S, but the daughter can use that and I have a 28-80 EF which will work on the 1DmkII. For now. I have a 50mm, and a long zoom. No pro glass just yet, but as it is I don't have a camera anyway. :)

Size is no object - I used the 40D gripped anyway so that ought to be similar. I am interested in the body weather sealing and also the better AF. I have the studio, so a 1.3crop vs. a 1.6 may be better?

The 1.3x vs 1.6X will be noticeable and it will benefit you in smaller confines of course. A 24-105 f/4 would be a great addition to that body. I had a 28-105 that I loved for studio work with kids so a 24-105 would be even better if you can pick one of those up later.

I bought the 1D...but it was a 1D Mk II N. The lady had a 24-105 f/4 but I don't have the money. :(

Ah well.

A 1D MIIN is even better with the larger lcd and all. You will absolutely love the AF and 8fps of the 1d.

Ironically, of all the features of the 1D series, the high speed burst is the one I use the least. I'm just not interested in culling all those photos.

Not in the studio. The odd BIF at the wildlife park might be useful to have. :)

Thanks. I have a manual, the charger (of course) and 5 batteries inc. the Canon one. Will peruse the links about settings...there are quite a lot of them! :)

Indeed. I don't shoot birds but even when I'm doing anything else including sports, my butt is thinking about the office chair and how long they'd be shaking hands while I wade through the nonsense. I really, really, really, really, really, hate culling.
