yeah, it's funny...this lens is always compared to the 85 1.8...but I did my own comparisions and I love mine...the weight is it's only drawback.....I actually lent my buddy my L and am using his 1.8 while he travels to Paris for 2 weeks..but the image quality is lacking compared to the L lens when making enlargements.........soon, I'll get it back and be happy again....there's a difference with L glass and if you can't see it...great, your lucky...unfortunately, I can...so it's.....payin' the cost to be the boss....don

Cheers, Don

I really want to get this lens ... Is it like a boat ancor on a 300D?

It's not as bad as you think...........heavy is the 70-200 f2.8 L IS or the 24-70 f2.8.

Dante,
Congrats on getting your Canon Ball back. Now you know why I like mine a whole lot.

The focus speed is not too bad, but try changing focus between near and far and you'll see what I mean by slow. But it is fast in that it tend to almost never ever hunt for focus.

Also the manual focus takes a bit longer.

After using 28-70/2.8L, 70-200/2.8L IS, and 16-35/2.8L and especially the 50/1.4 the 85/1.2L is slow to focus. But I gladly trade the focus speed for the look of the pictures it takes almost any day.

Just don't drop it again. :)

again, thanks for the comments.

Clean up is done. I am waiting on booths to be fabricated. I just gave my staff their vacation checks as we typically close for vacation at the end of this month. We are going to take our break a bit earlier this year. I am planning to re-open the second or third week of Jan. Will keep all you posted.

Hey, maybe its not exactly true, as I am just getting this lens back from canon service. This is my first shots with this gem as I dropped this baby before I could fire off 1 shot when I was trying to mount this 100 pound lens.

WHOA, is this lens heavy. forgot in the week canon had this baby. I find this lens fast to focus. I dont know why people say this lens is slow to focus. Maybe its that I have a 1D series camera?

Well enough anal cranial dysentery from me and feast yor eyes on this creamy buttery bokeh goodness. first shot is @ 1.6, second is 1.2 WOW WOW WOW.

Glad to hear you got it back, and that it looks good as new.
Great shots.
I love the way you nailed the eyes in #2.
From what I see that really must be a sweet lens (taking nothing away from the way you use it of course.)

Mike6158, yes you can live with out this lens. But you have to ask yourself, "is life worth living with out it?"

Good to hear your baby is safe in your hands. Have fun with it :D

Because he's already got the Tamron 28-75 :)

I understand, I can read his sig. I'm just wondering why in light of the fact that all his other lenses (except the 50mm) are "L". It seems he shoots for the best.
