Hey guys,

Do any of you have your company and website/phone #/etc as a decal on your car? I'm thinking about doing this but was wondering how effective it is.

Has anyone ever gotten contacted by someone who said that they saw your info on your car, checked you out, and now wants to book you? Please share! Thanks!

the one problem I have with advertising Photography on a car is, your telling every crook that there is a good chance of expensive equipment inside.

Had them on my trucks for years in construction.
A call or two but that's it.
I think what it does is reinforce the brand when you are on location.

Photographers I have known that have done it have all given it away after their cars have suddenly got broken into multiple times.

The other side is, how many times have YOU rung a professional you saw advertising on the side of their car?

From RDKirk: First, let me check the forum heading...yes, it does say "Business of Photography" and not "Hobby of Photography." Okay. So we're talking about making money, not about hobbies. By "business" I am presuming activities that pay expenses and produce a profit over the long term.

I heard of an insurance company finding out a car that was in an accident had a business sign on the door. The insured did not have a business policy. Insurance company argued the veihcle was being used for business and would not pay to fix the car. Not sure how true it is but you might want to also have a chat with your insurance agent.

I had one that covered my rear window on my car. Very visible and got many comments on it but never a call for business that was referred to seeing my car. It was never broken into and was on my car for over a year. I also carry a business policy.

I saw a photographer advertising on his truck once... the truck was probably nice many years ago, but between the rust and dirt, I doubted that many people would be calling this guy...
but I did look up his site on my phone, and sent him a note to say I saw his ad, and that if he's serious about promoting himself in this way, he should rethink the whole eyesore truck... never got a reply...

I had a clown being a smartarse and playing road games with me once in a company ute with signwriting all over it. They ran a red light and I saw the camera flash so I knew it got him.

When I got home, I rang my brother in law who owned the company and gave him a description of the guy driving as he had told me the weekend before he was having trouble with different people taking different trucks and getting fined and denying it was them so he had to pay to prevent the trucks rego getting cancelled.

Brother in law said nothing till the fine came in and the guy of course denied he was driving at the time. Brother in law fired his arse for lying and the way he had been driving which he had been seeing doing before and BIL had had complaints about as well.

One of the forum guys had a decal on the rear side window: "I shoot horses." That may have discouraged the crooks because he never said that it was broken into. ; D

I agree with most that the payback is not worth the reward, but I can think of a scenario where you may want to consider it. If you are a wedding photographer (just example here, plug in your area), and are "on the job", then a tasteful magnetic sign on the side of your vehicle may allow observers who are impressed with how you are working to take note. I would then remove the sign before I drove off. Basically, use the sign while parked only.

I think it looks tacky for a photography business and it makes you a target for vehicle breakins.

Also they can do a quick LP search and get the address the car is registered at and it makes your home a breakin target, too.
