I just availed myself of a 1D mark IIn and I have a couple of questions, neither of which I can get by RTFM and not much joy on Google either:

1. I put a 4GB SD card in alongside the CF card but the camera says it can't be formatted. Is this because it's 4GB? Has firmware got anything to do with it (my 1d has 1.1.0 and I believe that they have 1.1.2 or something now?)

2. The rubber cover for the lower connections on the side (video out, firewire, USB) is missing. I am certain it can be replaced but I can't find one on eBay, oogle or wherever. I find some that are not the same, but not that one...anyone ideas about where to look?

Cheers. :)

EDIT: I want to change/mess with Personal Fnctions on the 1DMkIIn, but it says I need to connect using Firewire. My laptop does not have Firewire ports. I have HDMI, e-SATA, and USB2, and the Network one (LAN?). I would need this to change the camera user name too, as it says the previous owners name every time I import images in Bridge etc. :(

Any ideas how I can connect with firewire to a laptop with no firewire (and no slots for cards either!)

Cheers

1, try the new firmware. I have 1.1.2 and I can format my 16 GB cards no problem.

2, you could always try canon ( they probably dont have them) but other than that I really have no idea. I cant imagine there is a huge market for something like that

Thanks. I have my card reader at the studio - I will update the firmware tomorrow. :)

Thanks, but don't they have the shaped bits underneath to slot into the various ports. The 1DIIn has THREE ports under there, not two. :(

I will search their site...:)

EDIT: I have seen one on eBay that looks like this, but shows the underside - maybe these WILL fit, but without a look underneath I am not sure. Will cost me about £14 all in to see...:)

I use 8GB SD card on my 1DIIn nd no issues at all, my camera is updated to latest firmware, also be sure that your SD is unlocked, sometimes i forget it locked so i can't delete or format or even taking photos with it, i think you didn't forget this step but check it out anyway.

Thanks Tareq. I am going to upgrade the firmware today so we'll see how that goes. :)

About the firewire, good luck! I could never get it! I tried 4 different firewire cables on 2 different PCs and 2 different macs. Some say you need a PC running XP and a old version of EOS utility. I tried all that and it still didn't work. I am currently trying to sell mine. But if I wasn't, I would send it to canon

for firewire, you should use the cable with both firewire port at both ends. and NOT the firewire and usb at the other end. The OS should be running in windows XP or Vista.

Yeah, that's what I am seeing.

I have an old laptop - the daughter's which does have a firewire port, so I ordered a cheap cable. The laptop has been upgraded to Window$ 7, but we'll see...it really hasn't got the power for W7 anyway, so I may restore it to XP and use it for the Canon. The daughter will be able to use it for browsing the children's TV web pages still! :)

Cheers
