Need help on what to do.

It looks like you are using windows vista. With 2GB of ram on Vista anything intensive will run slow.

It doesn't help that you are trying to use the latest software on a 7 year old midrange PC.

If you don't want to spend a ton of money upgrade your ram and that should help some.

If you really want dramatically improved performance you really need a new PC.

Your CPU has a passmark rating of approximately 1,200. A modern i7 CPU has a rating of 9,000 - 12,000. This is why Lightroom's slow. The core2quad CPUs are pretty old now. You only have 2GB of working RAM.

Like I said, you basically need to replace the computer to make it go any faster. If it's a desktop a motherboard, CPU, and RAM upgrade will help a lot. Put in an SSD if you want it super fast to boot.

Tim what upgrade combo do you suggest? Just some on a budget as I just got a new canon lens so that kind of dried the bank and still saving for the 70-200 for summer. I dont mind if dont boot fast as long as it dont chock with lr4, thats really all I use it for.

What's your budget on a new PC? You can go from $600ish-$3K+ easily depending on how much performance and storage you want.

Not much roughly 300-400. Like I said I just bought a lens and xmas left me dried. Its got a new case, sata 10 100gb hard drive? And vista. So I need a motherboard that allows for my ram and what else? Much rather dump a little mote on this rather than start new and spend 700+

A decent processor is going to be at least $200, a mother board is $100, new RAM is another $40-50 minimum plus shipping your right at the edge of your budget and unless you have a dedicated windows vista disk (not an OS reinstall disk that came with your old PC) that will add another $100 putting you over budget.

Do you even know if your case will fit a new motherboard or how to install one? Given your lack of success with installing new RAM do you want to try something much more complicated? vs. saving up a bit more and buying a prebuilt one?

Should be ok then im sure I can come up with extra cash later. Windows isnt a problem, case will work fine as it was bought with possible upgrade later on. I didnt do the work I had someone else do the work but didnt mention me anything about the rest of ram not counting.
