This is something i'll be seriously thinking about the middle of this year, but what are your opinions NOW on a second body? I have the 300D, and that has been really pleasing for me :)

I want the 300D as my 2nd camera for weddings etc. so i would like to know what the best Canon digital would be to get? I could go and do research myself but why not ask the pro's who use them?

I did my research for the 300D...i only had that amount of money to spend at the time so that's all i could get as a starter into DSLR. But i probably wouldn't go over $3000...

Let me know what you guys think

Thanks

Del

I shoot weddings with 2 Canon 350D's (the XT for those americans) and it works great. If I had the funds I'd look into a 20D or even the 5D, both very nice cameras and used by many pro's and semi-pro's.

I'd really have to recommend the 20D. It's a definite step up from your 300D and is well within your budget, letting you get a nice lens to go with it if you so desire. The 5D might be a good choice too, but I can't recommend it as I don't own one and haven't used one extensively.

The 20D is an awesome camera, I'd recommend it.

I'd like another body too. Mine is looking a bit scuffed and worn, it's frayed on the edges, some of the internal parts don't seem to be working 100%, focus distance seems to be ever-changing and it makes strange sounds when I put it to work.

Oh, are talking about "camera" bodies? I have enough of them for now . . .

I would opt for the 5D for that full frame coverage as long as your lenses aren't EFS lenses... I have the 20D and the 5D and believe me in tight corners the extra width you get from the wides on a FF camera are well worth the extra money...

I just got the 20D, and will be using the 300D as a back-up. As someone has already pointed out, the 20D and the 300D use the same battery, so that's a plus.

Another upside is that the 20D, with all its' capability, will be nowhere near three grand, and you'll have cash left over for more glass!

A photographer pal of mine shoots many a wedding and he loves the 20D and whats more his clients are blown away by the results. It falls within your budget and leaves enough for a good lens or two.

My buddy uses a 17-40 f4L and for low light shots a 50 f1.4 which due to the 1.6 crop on the 20D also makes an excellent portrait lens. If you don't mind second hand lenses you might just get them in budget.

Del, you know I just got my 20D and it's really wonderful. It is so fast. I've been using my 10D for over 2 years and it is my backup. They are very similar so I won't have to learn too much. For $1300 US you can get the 20D body and get the lenses you need to complete your collection. You can also buy another speedlite because you'll need both cameras to have a speedlite attached. I considered waiting and saving to get the 5D, but I decided I have my EOS 3 and it is full-frame, but film. If you are already used to the 1.6x factor, buy a wider lens to compensate.

Happy Shopping!

For the 3000.00 you can get two 20D's or a 20D and 350D or a 20D and two or more L lenses or...I think I'd wait, though, if you can, until the rumored big announcement in February...just to see what, if anything, it is.

OK 20D sounds like it might work out with my 300d (It's a rebel by the way - i bought it off an guy who got it in America) compatibility sounds appealing to me, that's why iwent with a Canon Digital to start with because i already had Canon Film's.

Because i won't be looking into it for a few months, yes i'll definately wait and see what comes out this year! I jsut think i'll have to save my pennies until i can afford all the backup methods...but for now with the 4 weddings i have this year, they might just have to put up with the fact that i only have 1 digital, i have my film as backup only if ABSOLUTE necessary (If i knew someone with a DSLR id use that...but everyone is sooo intrigued with the small compact digital's)

Thanks everyone - much appreciated to hear all your comments and thoughts!!!
