Well Schmoelzel (Michael) was kind enough to sell me his 50mm 1.4 in his quest to get a better lens. Before Christmas I had the opertunity to sit down with Michael at his store and have some of his great Tea. Just want everyone to no that he is human and not a high tech photography machine that produces never ending perfect results!....LOL
All kidding aside it was a nice visit and it was great to meet Michael and his wife. The lense arrived a couple of days ago and is tac sharp. I have not had much opertunity to take many shots and I am hesitant to post much because of the previous owner. Anyway here is a shot just to prove how sharp this lense is and I am glad to add it to my collection. I have one more that I really want to add to my "3-5 lense collection" and that is the 85mm 1.2L and that is going to have to wait.

Dan

I hope you love this lens as much as I do, Dan. It takes great photos....even if I don't.

I know you said Michael is only human but I don't think so..... he wouldn't have sold this lens if he was. ;) ;) ;)

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

Lovely sharp photos Dan.
I'm thinking about getting the 50mm f/1.8 basically because of its great price. I presume that the 1.4 has a better build quality than the 1.8, but this aside, do you think the extra expense is worth it for 0.4 of an f-stop?

Hey Dan, I hope he left the magic spell on it for you!

You won't be able to blame the lens if you're shots are not up to scratch.

Have a blast.

John, it's more than an f-stop. The build and speed feel much better and the background bokeh is lovely. My hubby has the 1.8 and there is no comparison, in my book.

Thanks Maureen, I hadn't appreciated that it was more than an f-stop of a difference. :o

Congrats Dan! Lucky you to have meet such a talented photographer. I'm sure we all want a sip of the green tea that you had there.
Wine and beer? Why not a shot of the green tea? LOL!

For "more than an f-stop", I think you need to read "not just the f-stop, but the build, speed and bokeh". The actual difference is 2/3 stop.

A better lens? What is Michael getting? I love my 50mm f/1.4. Of course, I am learning all the time in order to be able to make better use of it, but hey... other than a 50mm f/1.0, what can be better?
