The past four weeks since I got my 20d + Canon 100-400 have been mostly rotten here in Pittsburgh with dense overcast and cold rain. I did get out to a working farm near my house to photograph some animals. The ducks were nicely lined up around the frozen pond just hanging out. They didn't have a hard time walking, but I'm sure they enjoyed watching me slip and slide on the ice while trying not to break my new lens (or body parts). On my way back to see what animals were out to pasture, that blue jay landed on a tree in front of me right as the sun came out. I think it picked up the color very well.

Nice shots! I particularly like the blue jay. I have the same camera and lens combo, and it certainly does well as long as the lighting is adequate.

Another Welcome to the forum. Great Blue Jay shot. Also like your ducks shot. Do you know what kind of ducks they are?

I'm not real sure, so if someone can correct me, please do. But my best guess would be mostly female with mixed in juvenile mallards. There are as many male mallards with the bright green heads around as there are females in this picture, but they were all in the water at the time.

Nice color, light and composition in both shots although I would be tempted to crop out the 2 sitting ducks on the right in the first. Wonderful blues in the Jay. Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum:) I like the shot of the Blue Jay very much. They are very pretty birds, wish we had them in the UK. Our Jay is not quite as colourful but still a handsome bird. We see them near me from time to time but they are very skittish and hard to approach. Hopefuly I'll have more luck when I start using the hide.

Regards, Mark.
