I've been looking at the lens tests on SLRgear and by their measurements, the new superteles seem to get slightly softer when stopped down (at least on FF). Can anyone enlighten me as to why this should be the case? Diffraction shouldn't be a significant enough issue at f4 or f5.6 on a 1DsIII yet they do seem a little less sharp (albeit by a tiny amount) when stopped down one stop compared with wide open. Any ideas?
