Can anyone enlighten me as to why this should be the case? Diffraction shouldn't be a significant enough issue at f4 or f5.6 on a 1DsIII yet they do seem a little less sharp (albeit by a tiny amount) when stopped down one stop compared with wide open. Any ideas?
