When driving south from St. George, Utah, you go through the Virgin River Canyon, which in itself, is a remarkable piece of engineering, since it is partially cut through granite near the bottom, leaving soaring cliffs above you. This particular day the weather was off and on stormy, with snow, hail and rain. I saw this view and others, from a pull-out area, and had to stop, just to record the beauty of the area as best I could. Five minutes into shooting, I was asked to leave by a construction crew working on the road, so I only got a couple of shots. Here's one. Comments always welcomed and respected.

Beautiful shot...Love the subtle color changes in the mountains...Those are some mean looking storm clouds!

I travel that quite often (twice a month for the last 6 years) and never get tired of it! Was this taken last Thursday? I went through there on Thursday morning and the clouds were low and it gave the whole area a different "feel" so to speak... Love your capture!

Thanks for the kind words. The shot was taken on Dec. 18th, heading southbound but looking east. Have a happy and safe New Year. Al

Cool shot Al!

See a tiny bit of halo above the mountains, but that's nothing major overall. :)

Thanks for the comments. When I normally go through, it's usually bright and sunny. This was a real treat. Happy New Year, Marcy.

I've been working on shooting subdued winter colors under grey skies here in Jersey. Yours is a paragon. Too bad they gave you the bum's rush. I would consider subtly burning in the lower right corner to match the darkness in the other 3.

Thanks for the kind words. I'll see what I can do to help that lower right hand corner. Happy New Year. Al
