Assuming that the 7d mark II will be released in 2013, where would it be a logical place for Canon to announce it? Photokina isn't happening this year, so what events could Canon unveil the 7dii?
Thoughts?

I expect Canon will have some sort of press conference to announce the 7DII like they do for other high profile releases like the 5DIII & 1DX. This, in fact this could be more advantageous if Canon announces and actually manages to ship the bloody thing within a few weeks of the announcement, as opposed to announcing it at the trade show and us waiting 6 months to get our hands on one... Over the many Canon DSLR releases over the last 8 or 9 years (or so), with the exception of the Canon 1DX, Canon has typically followed up product announcements by shipping some meaningful amount of product within a month or two. There is possibly another slip up or two (that I possibly missed) other than the D1X in there over the dozens of releases.

KenjiS "Holy crap its long!" More info | Jan 05, 2013 20:10 | #10 You're right, But I'm more referring to Nikon, the D600 for instance was announced and started shipping the same week, It took Canon about 2.5 months to start shipping 6Ds despite them being announced at the same time... the 60D and D7000 the same thing happened if i remember right.. Nikon's been able to announce a new product and start shipping it within a week or two, whereas Canon has announced a product and then takes a couple months before we start seeing them in stores at all Gear, New and Old! When the competition announces a new body, you don't let them have exclusive press for very long, doesn't matter if your competing camera is ready or not. Ken

If I recall correctly, either two or maybe three Canon Japanese production facilities were destroyed by the tsunami. On top of that, several months after the earthquake, another Canon production facility was severely damaged in the subsequent Thailand floodings. We should all appreciate the fact that they are even able to deliver any new products at all. 50D / 28-1.8 / 100-2.8L / 200-2.8L / YN565Ex

There is possibly another slip up or two (that I possibly missed) other than the D1X in there over the dozens of releases. But in general, they have a very good record with this. No manufacturer of any complicated consumer item can typically meet the extremity high initial demand for an hot new product. Just providing one or two sales samples for every sales location is a daunting task. You must realize just how many DIFFERENT places sell Canon DSLR cameras. Gearing up production capacity robust enough to placate all of the huge initial demand would insure a huge capital loss on idle production capacity and tooling just after this initial offering "surge" quickly evaporates. Bankrolling very expensive production capacity totally based on the initial surge is an extremely bad business model. Enjoy! Lon I would be willing to wait if the 7Dii is full frame and cost .... say $1,500

Through news and photo websites Canon can reach far more people than those that come to a convention, e.g. dpreview.com
