For some days ago I test this Canon 50/1.4 and I liked it a lot. I don't think that it's bad on 1.6-1.8, useful! The bokeh is a beauty too. I ordered mine now SRFOTO (Homepage)

I was just griping to myself about it this morning! 5D3 | 7D | 70-200 f2.8L IS II | 16-35 f2.8L II | 24-105 f4L | 50 f1.4 | 600EX-RT | 430EX

I have just recently purchased a T5i and I do love the kit len that came with it (18-55 STM) but it does horrible in low lighting/indoor and I don't want to use a high ISO. My family is having a huge family reunion with people coming from all over to attend. The venue is going to have relatively good lighting but there will be lots of movement so I want a fast shutter speed. There will also be occasional portrait pictures and group pictures. I've been researching and looking at all the lenses. I'm now debating over this one, the 50mm f/1.8 or the canon 40 mm f/2.8. Would the 50 mm f/1.4 be good for this?

Jun 24, 2014 22:47 | #1722 The 50mm f/1.4 would be good for this sort of thing. The 50mm f/1.8 II is more or less equally sharp, but the background blur ('bokeh') is nicer with the f/1.4 version. The build quality is much nicer with the f/1.4 version too. I've owned both. They're both nice and sharp when stopped down too. I think both make great general purpose lenses. I can't speak directly about the 40mm f/2.8 because I have not used one before.

You're son is adorable! If you don't mind me saying so. Thanks, I think I'll go for the f/1.4 since it has a better build. I have read some reviews that people had their f/1.8 break in their camera or split in half. I think this would be great for a up coming camp out/bbq event I will be attending. Do you think this would be good for nighttime? I would like to take some pictures of the bonfire too. Thank you so much for replying/answering
