It is my first choice for any indoor shooting or when I just want to travel light. And I think it beats the 50mm f/1.8, but that is just my personal opinion Robin

I don't see myself getting any other 50mm variant unless a 50 1.4 II is released, or a version II of the 35L or 50L.
