With the 5D2, I think this lens is the perfect lens. It is my first choice for any indoor shooting or when I just want to travel light. And I think it beats the 50mm f/1.8, but that is just my personal opinion ;)

I've done it before...but as you can see, again ended up with the lens about a year later. IMO, there really aren't any equivalents that offer anything worth their price in comparison. I don't see myself getting any other 50mm variant unless a 50 1.4 II is released, or a version II of the 35L or 50L.
