Been eyeing this lighting in my house for awhile. Finally had the right subject matter to take advantage.

Thanks you. I've eyed this lighting in my house for the longest time. Finally had to subject to use last night.

Starting to get some more use out of this lens again, cute little travel lens when you need to just grab the camera and head into town.

Congrats! Really loving my 50mm and do not regret going against a few friends telling me to just stick with the plastic fantastic (50mm 1.8 II) rather than upgrading.

Thanks CJ. My 50mm 1.4 experience has been an eventful one to date tho!! Received in post, after taking a few pics I realised it was front focusing about 50% of the time. Plus I bought the lens from Hong Kong so negotiating by email and sending it back has dampened the experience somewhat!

Since My thoughts have been right round the houses, from canon 85mm, to 50mm 1.4 sigma and now back to this canon 50mm 1.4. If I'm honest I wasn't bowled over by the canons build quality, so if I'm honest I'd prefer the sigma build quality but have heard some horror stories about focusing on many of the sigma 50mm.

I currently have the sigma 30mm 1.4 on my 60d and think its superb. Generally I use the 30mm for indoor pics of my 5month old daughter :D. I'm after a 50mm for outside portraits, outside baby pics, and low light wedding ceremonies and evening do's.

Would love some help from you guys on here that might encourage me to go one way or another, even better if you have experience using this lens for portraits on a crop.

Jon, I had the 60D a little while back and the Sigma 30mm was my most used lens.

As far as 50s, I do prefer the Canon over the sigma because of size and weight plus I seem to have a pretty sharp copy. The Sigma is overall a better lens though.

If anything, I'd recommend searching for used copies of each and see which you prefer. Can buy and sell without losing much (if anything).

In my opinion, it's 6 in one hand, and a half dozen in the other. I've heard great things about the sigma 50, and great things about the Canon. I've also heard terrible things about both. I have the Canon, and I'm pretty happy with it. It was also a bit cheaper than the sigma, but I hear the price on the siggy went down some in the couple years since I bought Canon 50, so that could be a wash at this point.

CJ, Headsick,

Thanks for your replies, I appreciate that my question has probably been asked a lot in various forms. I'll let you know which route I take, maybe with some pics to share here :D
