yup, it is a huge jump. Takes a wee while to get used to the new sliders, but they are much, much better.

How bad are Tiffen UV filters?

I want to get one or two for an event we have going on next week for young life. It's sort of like a color run, but without the organized run and more just mass chaos...

So I might try and shoot, and I have rain covers for my camera, lenses, flash etc, but I'd like something to cover the front element.

why would you want something for the front element? It'll bugger up your shots. Now, seawater would be something else, but rain? A few drops are fine.. Just take a soft lint free cloth to wipe it every so often.

I haven't used Tiffen in some time but from what I remember and what I read, they are up there with Hoya and B&W. If you are looking for protection though, might want to go with the clear filters instead of the UV. THe UV coatings are not needed in digital and the clear ones are usually a few $$ cheaper.

No... it's not rain I'm worried about (though I would be with some of my lenses, not all of them are weathersealed). We're doing what's called a messy games and then doing something like the Color Run (external link), so lots of powdered paint, and other nasty crap like that will be everywhere. So I want to cover my front element for that reason so I don't get that crud all over my lens. I have the rain covers to cover up most of the camera to protect it from that stuff.

The Tiffen UV ones are like $9 for the 67mm on Amazon. :)

Sounds like an application where a filter is definitely needed and you can't go wronf for $9. That's a couple McDonald happy means. :)

Haha, yeah! If I knew it was just going to be dry powder I probably wouldn't care as much... but you never know what's going to be thrown in the mix at younglife...
