fascinating, this guy was only 6 when the Wright Brothers flew the 1st plane

I loved talking to my grandma when she was with us. She was born in 1899 and one of her stories was the first time she saw an airplane. SHe lived out in the country and they heard the noise but didn't think to look up right away. It landed in a field behind her farm and was the talk of the town for years to come. :)

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

According to the two people I know who shoot one, it offers the best IQ in the entire Canon lineup.

You give up a lot of bells and whistles, but as the 5Dc was once a simple tool for great images, such is the 6D now.

I wish I had more time to play with one but I've only been able to play a bit at Best Buy. From what i can tell, it feels like a solid camera and from the images I've seen posted, it looks more than capable.

I'm hoping to score a 6D as it seems a perfect fit. The images look stunning, it's no 5Diii in the af department, but neither is the 5d really.

5Diii for the win!

Almost like going back in time! Great scott!

Good to see you are back! How has life been? :)

Fantastic shot Harm. Another one for the long list of print outs for you ;)

Great camera with some fantastic IQ. You give up the Auto Focus system of the 5dmkIII for an upgraded 5dmkII center point system (sensitive to -3 EV on the center no other canon camera has that) plus it has wi-fi and GPS built in as well.

Thanks. I was wondering what it was you gave up. The images are stunning. Even from less than stellar lenses.

The 5Dc that I owned was no great shakes in the AF department. Not compared to the M3 or Ds2. I'm wondering if it's as bad as that....

Mostly, I would want something not too heavy but that offers good IQ. I'm not locked into this though.

Another question, if you could start over now...from scratch, what camera & system would you do? (Leica and hasselblad excepted...) The reason that I'm asking...you know that I've shot nikon extensively too. I LOVED their bodies & flashes but their lenses were fine. Only a couple that I really liked, none that I loved. While canon had some lenses that I missed very much. I've never shot Sony (except the nex5).

Edit: Where's Wool? Did he abandon this place?

No, I was surprised about that. I thought it was a staple of the flyovers...

Starting over from scratch (and if my hands were smaller) the nikon D600. Amazing IQ with incredible dynamic range and pair it up with a Sigma 35 1.4.

The 6D is nice and light weight as well for you.

Did I mention the Sigma 35 1.4? Yes it does a fantastic job on both crop and FF:

On the 7D:

interesting. I was fond of the sigma 50 when I had it. Used it a lot. I wonder if the 34 is similar?

Permi the Sigma 35 blows it out of the water in terms of IQ. It is basically the best 35 ever built if you look at reviews (this is comparing it to OEM versions of Canon and Nikon as well). Sigma went out of their way to launch a new line of lenses to showcase their commitment to creating a better brand and the Sigma 35 was the first of their "Art" line of lenses.

I had no idea it existed. lol It's been so long since I've looked at camera gear. Thanks Omar, I'll check it out.

No worries! Keep asking away :) Now we all hope the Sigma 50 gets remade with the Sigma 35 1.4 optics! :D

The Sigma 35 is the first stand out lens to come around in a very long time. What zoom range are you looking for? And does crop or FF matter?

FF. I'm looking at FF no matter which brand etc. I go.
Not particularly. I just wondered if there was anything new that stood out. There's so much to weed through. I thought maybe you could point me in a direction. But if the sigma is it, then cool. Thx.

That Sigma 35 looks beastly. I am yet to see a bad image come out of it (because of lens issues).

If I had to start again...Maybe save up harder and go hassy initially. But I think i did it right though. Crappy 40D, learn to use a DSLR, buy good glass, then upgrade the body.

All I have to do now is sell a photo!

But I will say this, Lisa, the 5Diii has been astounding, if you are even considering it.

ISP 6400 - no noise reduction in LR:

I haven't made up any firm direction in what I want to do.

Part of me doesn't want to spend a lot of $ on something, just in case my health gets worse again. (Right now it's doing very well.) On the other hand, I miss my gear. I used it when I had it and I'd like something I'd be happy with for a long time. I'm not in a "have to acquire the best" phase. I just want something I'll be happy with and can use.

Like, I doubt I'd ever buy a big lens again. That's why I was wondering about the new 70-300L vs. the 70-200 F4IS. That one is a tough call for me. I don't want to haul a 2.8. I hated the 100-400. So those seem like my only options via canon since the off brands are even heavier.
