PP44, on the other hand is sure he's going back to canon. And since he's always preferred crop cameras to FF, he's looking at a 7D.

Part of me doesn't want to spend a lot of $ on something, just in case my health gets worse again. (Right now it's doing very well.) On the other hand, I miss my gear. I used it when I had it and I'd like something I'd be happy with for a long time. I'm not in a "have to acquire the best" phase. I just want something I'll be happy with and can use. Like, I doubt I'd ever buy a big lens again. That's why I was wondering about the new 70-300L vs. the 70-200 F4IS. That one is a tough call for me. I don't want to haul a 2.8. I hated the 100-400. So those seem like my only options via canon since the off brands are even heavier. The 70-300L is a very capable lens (best 70-300 lens out there). A buddy of mine has it. Not too heavy and just a very good walk around lens. The Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 is sharper but it also does not have the extra 100mm. -Omar- Flickr

I brought the f4 IS specifically for the smaller size and weight for travel. I don't usually travel by air with my big lens, so the 70-200 + TC is as long as I go. It works pretty well on my 5DII but will throw up an error code after half a dozen shots on my 40D. I don't have the pins taped though, I usually just switch it off and back on again and it is fine again for a while. That way I still get the nice sharp lens, plus a bit of extra length if I need it without lugging a house brick around. Lloyd

If your sticking with Canon, the 6D has to be by far the best deal out there unless you really need the advanced AF of the MkIII. The 6D is a bit smaller, a bit lighter, has the best high ISO performance of all Canons FF cameras (well, maybe not the 1X) and focuses in near total darkness. But, the AF is basically a souped up version of what the MkII and classic had. Not sure why, but call me JJ.

I've used the Tamron 24-70 VC lens on the 5diii, it was a great lens. Sharp, focused fast. I must say with the combo, I think every shot was in focus. A rare feet compared to my regular rebel body.
