We're one of only three countries in the world that doesn't use the metric system? When is the US going to get with the program?

Last I saw was being completely switched over by November 17, 2014.

I know! Seems a little archaic.

I use both systems. My parents slowly switched to metric with the rest of the country, but we learned imperial quite well. I use F with higher temps, and C with lower temps. Zero degrees makes sense as the freezing point.

It only makes sense.

We already use the metric system in a number of disciplines. In radio we express frequencies in Hertz, kilohertz, megahertz and Gigahertz. We express wavelength in meters. We use kilo and mega to express units of resistance, inductance, capacitance and current. Most of the bolts in my American brand truck are metric. The military uses kilometers in tactical operations and kilometers are beginning to show up on US highways.

We might as well switch...

The system makes a lot of sense, and everything is standardized. Multiply by ten...

Well, my 9.5 year old TV bit the dust right after I got home from work. Problem is, my daughter and her family are coming in late tomorrow night for the weekend. That gives me tomorrow evening to buy one; the wife and I are going to look at Costco when she gets off work. :(

The good news is...

I get a NEW TV :D

So... LED, or Plasma? This one was a 43" Samsung DLP.

Taking the wife TV shopping? You guys going purse shopping afterward. :p

Samsung makes some good TVs. I like the ones that integrate with their other products. A friend who is a techie keener kinda guy loves them, and he spends more time researching and buying these goodies than actually using them.

Nah, she got a new Coach purse a few months ago. I just use her hand-me-downs.

Lamp. Which is no big deal, except I've already replaced it once, and the color wheel assembly. We decided it's time for a new set this time. The newer ones are so much sharper.

We have a cubby hole in the wall, only 46X29.5". But if the face sticks out beyond that, something bigger might work.

The difference in picture quality between the latest generation of LED TVs and Plasma sets is imperceptible for most people. Plasma prices have come way down though....and they still hold a slight edge in IQ in some folk's minds.

The down side to plasma though is that they are not as bright as a LED and use a lot more power so in the long run they are more expensive to operate. Look at the energy guide label carefully.

But they make for great subsidized heat in the colder months. They really should put a blower in like a gas fireplace.
