I love my plasma, but when it comes time to replace it, I'll get an LED. LED's have fewer issues with glare from ambient lighting, are lighter, use less power and run cooler.

LVMoose Moose gets blamed for everything. More info | Yeah, they both have their advantages, from what I've been reading. We don't really watch a lot of TV during the day, so the brightness advantage of the LED might not be that much of a concern. I want one with low motion blur, a sharp picture, and good contrast. I've got a list compiled from various web sites and Consumer Reports, of good models, and my eyes will help me decide. The heat of plasmas might be a turn-off, and glare, as Tim pointed out. Decisions, decisions. Moose

Problem with that is most "Store Display" tv's are set for full output in the store or demo mode. I noticed when I brought my tv home and was setting it up that it gave me the option for Store Display mode. When they are all set up at the store next to each other, it's hard to perceive the subtle differences. Recommendations and reviews are your best bet.

The plasmas generally have the edge here; most of the good ones are rated as, "unlimited." But, as Harm mentioned, they are heavier. Moose

They really should put a blower in like a gas fireplace. Um yea.. But your paying the electrical bill for that electrical hear. Also, in the summer you need to move the heat outside so your paying for additional cooling as well. Not sure why, but call me JJ.

Decisions, decisions. This is interesting. Our old one is going...I was looking at a panasonic plasma. (we have the LED in our bedroom but I really like the reviews I've been reading about the panasonic...) Our livingroom isn't bright so I'm not worried about that. And the refresh rate is supposed to be decent (we're not gamers either) but I haven't a clue what you are talking about re: the heat... .. It's Permie's world, we just live in it! ~CDS

They're not all created equal though... Some are just edge lit like standard CFL LCD's, other's have a full array of LED's behind the entire TV, and will actually use localized dimming to help create more contrast between blacks/whites.

Dislikes- Remote pickup sucks, if it isn't line of sight laser pinpointed you'll just be pressing it all day like the batteries are dead. Also there is no way to remove a channel, only add. So inommercial channels and all the additional PBS channels can't be removed. We have a cheap LED Hisense 32" for our bedroom we paid $199 for, remote works any which way I point it, has a great picture, and the price was excellent.
