Where have you been?

Crazy busy Moose plus I was crook for a while. I'm still crazy busy though. I spat the dummy last week and took some time off to get a break. I took Chris whale watching

I am out of condition though because I pulled up pretty sore the next day after only 3 and a half hours of solid riding. Mind you, some of the hills were too steep to ride up haha I only bit the dirt once too, which is always a bonus!! I always thought it would get easier as we get older, what a crock, we just get busier.

Sounds like a good time.

Pretty close to the whale, huh?

Haha, naw Harm, out in Hervey Bay. We had 2 come right up to the edge of the boat Moose. One stayed for half an hour flopping around doing the fin slap thing to attract a male, then this one popped his head out for a look. I missed the eye though, it stayed just under water. I have not had time to process any shots yet, I'll get to that next week (I hope).

Yep, the weather was spot on when we were there too. It was not as busy as last year, but we went a bit earlier then so the main crowds were still around. We rented a holiday house between the four of us this year which worked out pretty good. We also went on a smaller boat, Whalesong, which was a lot less crowded. The only downside is we should have stayed for a week instead of 4 days.

We stayed at the mantra hotel, hit the byob place next door, enjoyed the beaches etc. also hit rainbow beach and fed the dolphins at tin can bay. A good few days in the area.

It's way more than that. I wore a pair of Meril Trail Glove (external link) shoes for about two years. The most comfortable shoes I ever wore but they totally messed up my tendons in my feet. I think part of it was that they were cut too low and rubbed on my peroneal tendons and the achilles tendons. But they also caused my calf muscles to really tighten up basically to a point where I could hardly walk. I have been nursing them back but it's been a year and they are only now getting better. Recently my wife got this thing that basically looks like a rolling pin meant to roll out muscles and tendons (external link). It hurts like crazy but it is helping a lot.

Interesting. Good part is you are getting better! I use a similar roller after very hard training efforts or races on my legs:

Yea, same idea. The rolling pin thingy is really working. She rolls them out before we go out walking and it's night and day. I can walk faster, more comfortably, and with much less muscle aches. She rolls them out again after our walk as well.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

It was a dark and stormy night. Rain was pouring down as the wind searched out weak trees to ravage and lightning bolts lay waste to the hydro grid. Communities were plunged into darkness as Mother Nature unleashed her terror. Residents searched out flashlights, lit candles, and calmed children as the water level rose. The unlucky ones would start bailing as the lucky few stared in wonder at the dry and dusty bottom of the sump well. All would wonder when the hydro would be restored. How long does the battery backup system for the railroad last? Will too, those red lights go dark? Will the sleepy inhabitants lie awake all night listening for the soothing sound of a long, heavy freight but ultimately be disappointed?

Major benefit to living next to the railroad: first ones to get power back! The substation is just down the sideroad, and the line we are on is quite small and can easily be isolated. Everyone else is looking at another 12 hours of primitive life.
