Very arty. Much photoshopped?

A fair chunk of photoshop to get the reduced range of colours and upping contrast and levels and bits and bobs :-) Im not sure if I like them yet, may need to sleep on them

I think the first one would work for me more if there wasn't that white stuff on the right side of her face (her right). But, the second image works for me even with the stuff in the foreground.

I adore the colors and tonality within the shot and the composition definitely does it for me. To me, I also like how the mask gets chopped on the left side of the first image

RiverCottage - I've been watching your work and love the style that your PP brings out. Have you posted your process anywhere? If not, would you mind sharing how you get this effect?

I'm with codex0. I would love it if you gave a brief tutorial on how you arrive at the colors and textures of your images. Can we twist your arm?

I'm a big fan of your work.

I can tell by your avatar that you are a fan of either Johnny Depp or his movie...
It shows in your photography...and that is a compliment.

Did you shoot these through some sort of lace?

I love them, wow I cant imagine how you made them. The only thing I dont like so much is the white stuff over her eye in the first one, but other than that they are amazing.

hi, there was some interest in my way of working so just a quick run throught.

im NOT a good photographer so what i do probably isnt anything to go by, the modal was shot in a bath wearing frilly clothes and water was applied, the photo was taken behind a shower screen giving that swirly white stuff at the front.

I took the picture through the kit lens, cant remember the settings, i mostly use auto and bounced the 420ex flash off a wall, bathroom is tiled so light bounces around lovingly. This is bad but the way i work, i cant be too gentle with my gear, i could have realy expensives lenses, i'd be afraid of getting them wet and things like that, my lens is FILTHY full of dust and fingerprints - which i like, i also shoot through a cheap wide angle adapter for my sony W1 which is in even a worse state which adds even more muck, so the raw image is something along the lines of the image attached (hopefully) I then layer bits of scanned things ontop to get different lightings and colours, do a bit of dodging and burning, sometimes i like to oversharpen with a REALY big radious which seems to blur and bring out some nice colours, then mess with the opacity of that layer to show through some underneath layers

Hope this helps and ive made sence and not rambled too much

:-)

Fantastic images and I love the explanation of your work. You say you're not a good photgrapher, well you're certainly a good artist. The idea that the final image is what's important, separates from the photgrapher who composes with the final idea in mind. Your work for me is a good example of the symbiotic realtionship between photography and art.
Roger.

you've got some great images on you site...I enjoyed looking at them. Much different than my style but I like them none the less.
