my adjustment brush problem in LR3

Not really that experienced with the adjustment brush tool but was working with it just fine a week ago. Today I am trying to reduce exposure in one part of a photo that I took yesterday (in front of my xmas tree with a Westcott softbox) and all I see is the color red being painted in where I apply the brush. I tried to reset my brush but it doesn't seem to do anything. Suggestions?

That is the overlay that shows you where you have painted. Click the O key to toggle it off or on. If the area you are working on is red the color of the overlay can be changed.

Heh...you have masking turned on. Hit the 'O' key, I believe, to turn it off; it's just showing you the area that you've covered with the brush, so you can more easily tell if you've missed something.
