I used to shoot alot of wrestling and know it can be very challenging to get good shots. Thank you for chiming in. Wrestling doesn't get the following that other sports do in our city. It's a bit of a challenge to photograph. I do have great respect for the athletes that participate. They work their butts off. I just wanted to share some of the action as I viewed it one night and one afternoon. Xochi2

Jan 07, 2013 09:11 | #7 Very impressive, which ver. of 300 2.8 do you own? I have been considering that I may be able to look at a non IS, earlier version, and just using the 1.4 extender for outdoor day-lit sports like baseball. Jan 07, 2013 19:02 | #9 Nice shots, sharp and clean. I'm going to take a guess and say you are using flash/strobes? Thank you. Yes. Strobed, two AB800's, bounced off of white raftered ceiling. One mat in photos 2, 4-7, four mats in photos 1, 3 & 8. Two different gyms, two different meets; a dual and an invite respectively. Xochi2

Is that a distraction? is it pretty uniform "all right" to use strobes for wrestling? Sony A7r2|24-70 f/4 FE|85 1.8 FE|28 f/2 FE|Venus Laowa 15mm f/2|Habakkuk 2:2

Jan 07, 2013 20:16 | #11 Wow, amazing! I didn't realize you had used strobes. Is that a distraction? is it pretty uniform "all right" to use strobes for wrestling? Our city (pop. 66,000) has four high schools; two public, two private. Our local newspaper strobes almost all basketball games, wrestling, volleyball, dance competition, sometimes swimming (not diving, of course), sometimes hockey. Strobes/Flash are absolutely banned (by our state HS organization [WIAA]) during gymnastics. The student-athletes are basically oblivious to them. The t.1 "Flash Duration" for the AB800's is 1/1100 second (at full power). The local newspaper uses between 1-2 AB800's. Over the past 10 years, I have, on two instances, been asked to "cut" the strobes; one was a collegiate basketball double-header (Women/Men) at a DIII college venue, a fan that was waiting for the Men's game to begin, with about 3:00 minutes left in the women's game, approached me and told me that the "flashes" were giving him a migraine. The 2nd incident, a HS volleyball referee asked in the fifth game, (of the best of 5 match) if I would not use the strobes during play. I acknowledged the request. Our newspaper was also using their two strobes during the match, but was not addressed about it. The local newspaper and our local DIII University photogs use strobes for basketball games, but will aim them directly above the players' heads (at about 10-12 ft), as opposed to bouncing them off the "dark blue" raftered ceiling. The newspaper utilizes 7" reflectors, I employ 11" ones. Hope this helps. I'll post a few of my pictures from Sat, so you can see what I'm up against. Looking forward to viewing your captures. Xochi2
