I was fairly underprepared as I set out at 6am to do some nature and landscape work, practice with my new 24 TS-E etc. And of course at this perfectly inopportune time, armed with a 135L as my longest lens, a deer runs across the road. Thankfully she stood still long enough for me to change lenses, get out, and get close enough to make 135 work for an "environmental portrait. Even at ISO 3200 and f2 I was at 1/80 so I kneeled to make a human tripod, and managed to pull 1 acceptably sharp and well exposed shot out of 45 taken.
I've never been a dedicated wildlife shooter, but I can see how a 70-200 2.8 IS or 300/400 2.8IS can make a huge difference in getting the shot.
