Having discovered that two of the brightest asteroids (well, one is now decribed as a dwarf planet) are currently in Taurus along with Jupiter, I thought I'd try and capture them all in one frame. I managed it here in this single exposure: 20s, f/8, ISO 3200 on the 5D MarkII and the 70-200/4L at 70mm, all atop my homemade sidereal drive.

Very close study of the original shows a limiting magnitude of about 11.3; easily enough for Vesta at 6.9 and Ceres at 7.2. You can see the Hyades just below Jupiter, and the Pleiades in the top right corner.

Cool indeed! The Dawn spacecraft is somewhere in between Vesta and Ceres right now. I wonder if you might have gotten a Jupiter moon or two, the big four are well brighter than 11.3 .

Thanks both. Yes, I think three of them can be seen on the original; the fourth is hidden in the glare from the long exposure of Jupiter.
