Anyone know any reasons to prefer magnesium to carbon fiber for the pro bodies? I think that for the same volume, CF would be less prone to crack from an impact, and lighter.

PRICE!!!

They stick you enough for these things anyway. I dont know how much CF you would need to maintain the same rigidity as the Magnesium.

Good question! Possibly their marketing mindset is geared towards old folks like me. I equate weight to quality in whatever I purchase. Dumb, I know.

Carbon fibre needs a lot of manual intervention in its manufacture. Metal can be cast.

If you look at an exploded view of the magnesium frame and know anything about Carbon fiber You'd understand. Its the process(s) involved with one vs. the other.
Plus the weight savings would be minimal, as in a few grams and not ounces.

Not really, because if it would be like that "steel cages" on race cars would be made of carbon fiber instead of steel.

Actually once you have a mould the marginal cost of a cast is pretty low. Also CF does not take blunt trauma well.

Yeah, people say CF is strong that's a bit of a generalization. CF has high torsional strength...it's not highly impact resistant..

In fact, the most technologically advanced race cars - those of Formula One - have a body tub primarily made of CF.
F1 teams use carbon fibres, a pre-impregnated epoxy resin and an aluminium honeycomb layer, which is sandwiched between two layers of carbon fibre. It's this construction, with its huge strength, that has dramatically cut deaths in the sport - Ayrton Senna was thankfully the last F1 driver to die, and that was in 1994.
