A couple of months back my 50D+24-70L took a nasty nasty fall at 60kmph on the road while on my motorcycle, the chain of my lowepro gave way, since it was a late night shoot, I was tired and didnt notice that the chain teeth didnt match in the dark, All fault of mine should have been that more careful. Lost the battery cover, lens cap, just couldnt find them on the road anywhere! The body took some dents & dings, But surprisingly held up well and the lens head took a nasty dent. Both the things went into canon, and are back now in working condition. The lens went in for fungus cleaning, also gave in the 70-200L for fungus cleaning. Work has been thin, And with no camera there was none, keeping the spirits up is the most difficult part of it all. But a lesson was learnt, can never be too careful.

Gripped Canon 50D, Canon 400D with BG-E3 Grip, 580 EXII Flash, Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L , Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L / Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 /Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 / Tamron AF18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 XR Di II LD

60K mph off a motorcycle sounds like a bad fall, probably bounced a few times.
yes, you can never be too careful - for both camera (and human) bodies

Yes it was quite a fall, the camera lens works fine now but Id be frank I still have a doubt in the mind if it will give in someday at the middle of a paid shoot!!
