I have three Nissin Di866 speedlites. They are equivalent to the 580EXII. Good unit.
You may want to also consider the Yongnou 565EX or 568EX. I have no personal experience but there are a lot of users here on PoN that seem to be having good experience with them.

I have four Sunpak 383's that I love. They are no longer being manufactured so I don't know about finding them in Europe but here in the states, I can find them on ebay.

The PZ42 is one of the flashes that I am using with my 60D.
The flash can be controlled from the camera menu.
It's a pretty good flash, about equivalent to the 430EX II, and far cheaper. The only problems are:

1) That you will not get HSS.
2) Manual Mode does not work. Only ETTL.
3) You cannot control the flash wirelessly with the onboard flash as you can the 430EX II.

But I can work around this when I use the pass-through on my 622 controller to mount the flash on the camera. Then manual works fine, because it is the flash trigger that is being set to manual mode, not the flash itself. HSS still will not work, though.

One advantage it does have over the 430 is that it swivels 270º to the right, unlike the former, which only does 90º. Both will do 180º to the left.
