5Dc or T4i for learning photography?

Looking at all of these wonderful pictures so far has made me thinking about a full frame camera. I am thinking of taking two paths:

Saving for a new/refurbished D600 ($1,700), used 5D Mark II ($1,200 - $1,500) or even a refurbished 5DMark III ($2,300). This might cost me from about US $1,700 - $2,300 or so. I thought about the 6D, but every review that compares the 6D to the D600 gives the advantage to the D600, but the WiFi and included GPS does sound kinda nice.

Anyway, in the mean time, I was able to get a T4i for a great low price and have been playing with that a little, but I heard getting a 5Dc since it's full frame and working with that might be pretty cool. I am pretty sure I can get a used 5Dc for about the same price as my T4i. Should I return the T4i and get the 5Dc, or just learn with the T4i and get some decent glass and get the 5D Mark III later on (if I can catch it during a special via the CLP).

Getting a 5Dc would be a good way to introduce yourself to Full Frame but I think getting a T4i or older would be just a fine way to get into photography too as long as your spending your money on lenses. Invest yourself in lenses. Your going to see great photos with crop and full frame.

Learning your Shutter/ISO/Aperture combo will be the same on either but how you adjust them will vary.

What I have always loved about my 5D was that is was the closest to the basic film cameras that I learned on of any of the digital slr's that I have owned. Because of that I would think it would be a wonderful learning camera. But before you put too much stock in my advice you should understand that I think you should learn technique before you learn gadgets. Learn about the elements of exposure and what effect they have on the image and how to control the light. Its not as advanced in the gee whiz features of the rebel, but the image quality is fantastic.

Stay with the t4i for now. When you get better step up to a 6D or 5D2/3. The technology on the 5Dc is old and obsolete. Get use to the newer menu function and buttons on the newer cameras.

I have been using a 50D since it came out, but recently bought a 5d classic I can tell you this the so called "old and obsolete technology" knocks spots of a 50D in every department all day long.

Maybe cameras aren't for taking pictures any more, like phones they seem to have to have all the bells and whistles or they are outdated. People just want the camera to take photos for them, instead of learning the art themselves, as I did all the way back with film.(get a point and shoot)

A 5D would probably be more useful for mastering the rudiments of photography because of the spartan layout and features. All the features in the world are just bandages if you don't know the basics. The t4i is certainly a capable body, though, and you do get all of those bells and whistles.

The 5Dc is wonderful camera. I had 2 of them myself before I sold them. The image produce by the 5dc is stunning, but the t4i is just as capable with more bells and whistles. I'm just giving the OP more opinions to chose from. IMO

Thanks for all of the responses. Full frame seems to the way to go that is why I thought about the 5Dc. Some of the pictures in that thread look outstanding!

The simpler menu system may not be as daunting for someone wishing to learn the basics of photography. Because I started with a 350d it was a bit like going home in terms of operating system.

If you don't plan on doing video definitely go for the 5dc. The FF body will force you to buy lenses that will work on FF later on so you're won't waste money there, and the files from the 5dc are gorgeous.

I think the 5Dc will be a better learners camera since it gives you more control over the depth of field.

I would say the 5D, but you already have the T4i. If you can be bothered with the hassle (or if there is no hassle) in getting the 5D and returning your T4i, I'd say go for that; otherwise, don't worry about it.

If you intend to do video or shoot sports then keep the T4i. 5D is a very capable body, but lacks in many of the user interface advancements seen in the Rebel line in the last 6 years. The awesome LCD clarity, live view, articulating screen, onboard flash, 18 megapixels and high ISO are nice options to have and with the right glass the T4i will not disappoint.

This is pure, unadulterated bull-pucky. The 5D gives up nothing to the 5D2, 5D3 or 6D in terms of image quality. The newer models have a lot more whiz-bang-gee-whiz features. They offer almost nothing in terms of image quality. Shoot all 4 of these bodies, raw, at ISO 800 and nobody on this earth could tell which is which in an 11x17 print. 5D = $500. 5D3 = $3,000. Old, yes. Obsolete, ridiculous!

A mint condition 1968 Camaro is old. Its also worth about 50 times what it cost brand new. Old does not mean worthless. Heck, I'm old.... Wait a minute, my wife has a comment....
