been seeing a pair of nuthatch for the last week but they are very wary so far this is the best ive got

Hi poldodog, they are indeed very wary but can also become quite tame once they get used to you. If this is in your garden then consider finding a moss covered log and setting it up near the ground. You can then place a few Sunflower seeds in amongst the Moss, you could also poke a bit of crunchy peanut butter in there as well as they go mad for that also. Make sure the log or perch is positioned so the main sorce of light is coming from behind you and on to your subject. You will soon end up with a more pleasing shot rather than just on the feeder. Hope you do not mind me posting up an example and will remove it if you wish.

The Nuthatch is a fantastic bird, full of character - it's a treat to see them and get a good photo of them.
